When it comes to watermelon, my eyes are often bigger than my stomach. I’ll pick up a beautiful watermelon at the grocery store for a weekend grill night, and by the end of the weekend, I’ll still have half a melon left! Does anyone else have the problem?

    Watermelon Margarita Recipe

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. First, blend up the fresh watermelon. Next, combine it with lime juice, tequila and agave and pour it into a tajin- or salt-rimmed glass, and BAM! You’ll feel like you’re the queen of summer cocktails, with little-to-no effort.

How to Make the Best Watermelon Margarita

To make a watermelon margarita on the rocks, you’ll first need to puree the watermelon until smooth. Then combine with the tequila, lime juice, agave and ice in a cocktail shaker (a mason jar also works well here) and strain into your Tajin-rimmed glass.

For a frozen watermelon margarita, simply freeze the watermelon before blending, then combine frozen watermelon, tequila, lime juice and agave in a blender and pour into your Tajin-rimmed glass.

    Sip, sip, hooray!

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a non-alcoholic version? How can I make a watermelon margarita mocktail?

Yes! For a non-alcoholic version of this watermelon margarita, use sparkling water in place of tequila for the on-the-rocks version. For a frozen non-alcoholic margarita, simply thin out the blended ingredients with water until you get the consistency you desire. It will be like a yummy watermelon smoothie!

How do I serve a watermelon margarita?

Our favorite way to serve this margarita is in a Tajin-rimmed glass (the salt and acidity in the chili-lime salt brings out the sweetness of the melon). You can also serve it “naked” (no rim) or keep things classic with a simple salted rim.

How can I make batch watermelon margaritas?

This recipe is written for two margaritas, but if you’re making a batch for a big group, you can easily scale this recipe to serve more!

    – Four servings: 1 cup tequila blanco + ⅓ cup lime juice + 8 cups cubed watermelon (1 cup pureed watermelon) + 4 teaspoons agave

    – Eight servings: 2 cups tequila blanco + ⅔ cup lime juice + 16 cups cubed watermelon (2 cups pureed watermelon) + 8 teaspoons agave

    – Twelve servings: 3 cups tequila blanco + 1 cup and 2 tablespoons lime juice + 24 cups cubed watermelon (3 cups pureed watermelon) + ¼ cup agave

    – Sixteen servings: 4 cups tequila blanco + 1 ⅔ cups lime juice + 32 cups cubed watermelon (4 cups pureed watermelon) + ⅓ cup agave
